Recorded at the age of 46 in a basic improvised studio in his native Burkina Faso, Victor Démé is the self-titled debut album from the singer/songwriter who fuses Manding music with Latin American rhythms and folk-blues. Steeped in the West African griot tradition, the release features an interlude recorded by Afro-beat musician Tim Winsey and 14 self-penned tracks based on lyrical.

After a long sojourn in Cote d'Ivoire, where he worked as a tailor, Deme returned to his native Burkina Faso in the late s on the heels of a new political movement and found himself in high demand at nightclubs around the country.

8. After a year career in Burkina Faso, the Mandingo singer finally releases his first album. In , with the help of journalist David Commeillas and of Soundicate’s activists, they founded the label Chapa Blues Records to promote Victor’s music.
